Welcome back, Meerlust Cabernet! An SA classic returns!
- It may have been Meerlust seventh-generation owner Nico Myburgh's dream to produce a great South African red blend in the style of Bordeaux when, in 1950, he inherited the wine estate that had been in the Myburgh family since the mid 18th century. And it may have taken him 30 years to realise that dream when Meerlust Rubicon (first made in 1980 and introduced in 1984) became a national icon of world renown. But it all started with the king of grape varieties… cabernet sauvignon.

What i drank last night - Meerlust Rubicon 2007
- At the launch of the Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, the Meerlust Rubicon 2007 came up trumps. "An outstanding example of a Stellenbosch red made in the Bordeaux style (74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc). Cassis and pencil shavings on the nose. The palate is medium- to full-bodied with great concentration and intensity. Pure fruit, fine tannins and fresh acidity before a wonderfully long, dry finish. Has great maturation potential."

Meerlust Rubicon Celebrates 30 Years
- 'Alea iacta est (the die is cast)!' These were the immortal words attributed to Roman army commander Julius Caesar as he committed his troops to crossing the Rubicon River and advance upon Rome to wrest sole control over the ancient city from the senate and its ruling triumvirate of consuls in 49BC.
