Mulderbosch 2011 Harvest Report
- Despite the fairly dry winter the Cape experienced last year, spring and early summer led to even and consistent temperatures. Harvest started on January 27 with 28 tons of Chenin followed by just over 10 tons of Sauvignon Blanc close on its heels. Some heat spikes in February sped up the ripening of the sugars and our record day for processing reached 85 tons! Overall we have processed just over 900 tons of fruit where the majority is white and still waiting for the Bordeaux varietals to trickle in for the Faithful hound. This year we have sourced the best fruit from all over the Western Cape. Sauvignon Blanc from Elgin, Chenin from Koekenaap, and Perdeberg, our Cab for the Rose from Havana Hills. On a side note, with great demand for our Cabernet Rose in Scandinavia, we have kicked up production for this “berry” fruity summer delight.
