The Graaff family farm combines sophistication with warm hospitality with sweeping views of Table mountain and False bay. Fourth generation custodian, Sir De Villiers continues the family legacy of fine wines and farming in the Tygerberg hills with De Grendel's portfolio of internationally celebrated wines.
De Grendel Sir David Graaff
In honour of the life and legacy of Sir David Pieter de Villiers Graaff, the 1st baronet of Cape Town. An enticing entry of elegant dried cranberry on the palate evolves into rich plum flavours supported by nuances of savoury cassis and perfumed, sweet tobacco leaf lingering with a finish that is long and lusciously augmented by firm, rounded tannins.
De Grendel Winifred
Brilliant straw in colour, this exquisitely complex nose exhibits elements of fresh kiwi and green apple underscored by an enticing oyster shell minerality with nuances of butter popcorn, straw, acacia and honeysuckle. An excellent, exceedingly flavourful follow through generously unfurls crisp citrus, lime, and quince onto the palate, reinforced by perfumed floral notes. Highly concentrated aromas on the nose precede an exceedingly flavourful palate with a pleasingly crisp, floral finish.
De Grendel Amandelboord Pinotage
Bright ruby garnet in colour, enticing aromas of blue berries on the nose mingl with subtle hints of Chinese five spice aptly underscored by nuances of coffee, chocolate, coconut and clove before a sumptuously balanced palate of elegant black berries finishes with chocolate tannins and hints of spice. A deliciously fruit forward wine with elegantly balanced tannin and spice.
De Grendel Brut
Effervescent elegance in a glass – our beautifully balanced MCC, the winner of multiple trophies and awards through the years, consistently sells out before the anticipated release of the next vintage.
De Grendel Koetshuis Sauvignon Blanc
This wine is stylistically different than our De Grendel Sauvignon Blanc in the sense that the wine leans more towards a fuller and richer style, with intense hints of minerality, gooseberries and asparagus on the nose and palate.
De Grendel Sauvignon Blanc
This Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes grown in a vineyard which benefits from the cooling effect of gentle maritime breezes from the nearby ocean where the cold Benguela current runs northwards up the coast resulting in an expressive yet restrained elegant style.
De Grendel Viognier
De Grendel Viognier is a great food wine which will pair well with rich pasta, chicken and pork dishes. Its a wine with rich, intense aromas and tastes of white flowers, ripe fleshy peaches, apricots and dessicated pineapple followed through on the palate with an undertow of soft, buttery oak barrel flavours.
De Grendel Rosé
De Grendel Rosé is a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage grapes cold soaked before fermentation for just enough time to impart a blush of pink intended for simply beautiful drinking.
De Grendel Shiraz
This Shiraz shows coriander, lavender, white pepper and some floral notes on the nose. This full structured wine is well supported by oak undertones and sweet ripe tannins. On the palate the wine lingers with a beautiful clove flavour.
De Grendel Merlot
If classic elegance is more your thing, look no further. It first reveals a delicate allsorts of berries – red, black and blue – followed by the alluring aroma of aniseed and liquorice which are all carried through on the palate.
De Grendel Rubaiyat
The Rubaiyat is a classic poetic Bordeaux-styled blend consisting of a 'quatrain' of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The name is inspired by Omar Khayyam’s exquisite collection of 1000 Persian love poems from the 10th century, held dear by the late Sir David Graaff. Each successive vintage features a different quatrain from the poem on the label, hence the blend of four varietals for De Grendel's flagship wine.
De Grendel Op die Berg Chardonnay
The wine has a bright green to straw hue. On the nose citrus flavours of grapefruit and marmalade that on palate is well supported by soft vanilla undertones. Great length and weight in the structure of the wine resulting in an ideal food partner.
De Grendel Op die Berg Pinot Noir
A consistent winner of both national and international wine awards, De Grendel Pinot Noir is nourished by the unique terroir 'op die berg' (on the mountain) of the Graaff family farm in the Witzenberg mountains in Ceres, better known until recently for high quality apples and pears.
