Spice Route

The Spice Route Winery has found its signature wine style in the warm rolling hills along the Cape west coast in the Swartland. Their philosophy matches traditional practices in the vineyards with a modern, minimalist approach in the cellar to produce exceptionally ripe and deep-flavoured wines.

Spice Route Sauvignon Blanc

Tropical and grapefruit notes on the nose, with typical Darling lime character. Intense lingering mouthfeel reminiscent of the cool climate granite soils of this dryland farmed vineyard.

Spice Route Chenin Blanc

Bright light yellow colour. Complex nose with tropical fruits and peach followed by flinty notes. The palate is rich and broad, reminiscent of the koffieklip soils, with well-balanced acidity from the first picking.

Spice Route Viognier

Aromas of stone fruit and acacia blossom. The palate is a complex weave of bold fruit and bright savoury flavours, well balanced apricot and delicate spice.

Spice Route Saffron Rosé

Burnt orange colour.  Sensual aromas of dark berries, stewed fruits and savoury notes on the nose. Full bodied dry rose with flavours of blackberries, cinnamon spice and well-integrated oak.

Spice Route Pinotage

Intense ruby red colour. Rich blackcurrant and cherries on the nose. Intense dark fruit flavours on the palate that combines well with sweet vanilla oak aromas. Ideal wine for India spicy dishes or a well matured steak.

Spice Route Chakalaka

The Signature wine is named after South Africa’s traditional spice blend. A sum of many parts selected for their ability to express the soils of the Swartland harmoniously, Chakalaka is a blend of six grape varieties; a reflection of our cultural diversity and our desire to show place before grape.

Spice Route Malabar

Made only in the best vintages, from the best vineyards, our flagship blend is selected from a handful of barrels, no matter the variety. A true Swartland wine. The final blend is returned to barrels to mature and knit together until bottling, where it sits for a further two years or more before release. The ultimate expression of the fruit of the Earth guided by the Hand of Man.

Spice Route Mourvèdre

Black cherry infused with cardamom and nutmeg on the nose. Intense fruit shows well on the palate, with elegant iron-like tones adding to the savoury character of the wine. Medium bodied with elegant oak from the old French barrels.

Spice Route Grenache

Vibrant light red colour. Red berry fruit and subtle pepper harmonize with cardamom and iron-like spice. This elegantly built wine benefits from a lightness which does not hinder its complexity. Fine tannins and good acidity will help this wine evolve well over the next few years in bottle.
