Jean Engelbrecht, along with his friends Dillie Malherbe and Jannie Durand, set out to create a wine that would not only embody all that is Stellenbosch, but that would also pay homage to this great town at the heart of the Cape winelands. Each wine in this range pays tribute to an historical landmark in Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch Reserve Moederkerk Chardonnay
Rust en Vrede proprietor Jean Engelbrecht pays tribute to his birthplace, Stellenbosch, the town that has become the epicentre for SA viticulture with the Stellenbosch Reserve wines. Made from classic varieties, the range reflects a sense of place, heritage and pride. The Chardannay, previously known as Moederkerk Chardonnay, gains added texture and character from lees stirring, partial malolactic fermentation and barrel maturation.

Stellenbosch Reserve Hangbrug Chenin Blanc
This Chenin Blanc represents classic varietal expressions of the Stellenbosch terroir, with grapes selected from various sites in the region. Fermentation took place in a combination of steel tanks, for freshness and fruit purity, and seasoned French oak barrels, lending complexity and texture to the wine. Maturation takes place in a combination of 300L and 500L French oak barrels. Named after the walk across the iconic Eersterivier Hangbrug in Stellenbosch - an experience enjoyed by students and residents alike.

Stellenbosch Reserve Ou Hoofgebou Cabernet Sauvignon
Stellenbosch Reserve pays homage to landmark Stellenbosch buildings, naming their wines after classic sites in the historic wine town. Previously known as The Ou Hoofgebou Cabernet Sauvignon, the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are selected from various sites located in the Stellenbosch region, with each site contributing different characteristics to create complexity in the wine. Maturation in seasoned French oak for 12 months.

Stellenbosch Reserve Kweekskool Merlot
The Stellenbosch Reserve wines pay homage to iconic buildings in the historic wine town of Stellenbosch. These landmarks represent the legacy of the town, with The Kweekskool, originally being built in 1687. The evolution and endurance of this distinctive building is what Stellenbosch Reserve aims to replicate in this Merlot. Grapes are selected from various Stellenbosch sites to showcase terroir typicity and create complexity in the wine, followed by 12 months maturation in seasoned French oak.

Stellenbosch Reserve Kruithuis Syrah
The Stellenbosch Reserve Syrah pays homage to the Kruithuis in the historic wine town of Stellenbosch. The Kruithuis is a symbol of military strength and power, which is reflected in the powerful fruit flavours and structure of the Syrah. A portion of the grapes were fermented with stems, to add a spicy pepper character and freshness. The wine was aged in a combination of 300L and 500L seasoned French oak barrels for a period of 18 months.

Stellenbosch Reserve Stadsaal Cinsault
Through a combination of wine, architecture and heritage, Stellenbosch Reserve wines, tell a story that is uniquely framed around the wine town of Stellenbosch. Grapes come from 60 year old vines and represent classic varietal expressions of the Stellenbosch terroir and heritage. The Cinsault, named after the town hall (Stadsaal), displays light-bodied finesse and is aged in seasoned 500L French oak barrels for 12 months.

Stellenbosch Reserve Vanderstel
Vanderstel, named after Simon van der Stel, the first governer of the Cape and founder of the viticultural town of Stellenbosch. This Bordeaux blend is made from classic varieties sourced from various Stellenbosch sites, to reflect a sense of place, heritage and pride. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.
