Savoury black olive, white pepper and soy sauce aromatics.This is a big, bold wine with spicy red fruit, maraschino cherry richness and cashew nut creaminess. Firm structure and frame are enhanced by a dry, tannic grip. Seamless and well crafted it is elegant and genteel yet boasts a good, long finish.

Italian var (sangiovese) for late Norwegian explorer (Arné Naess) from Fr corner of the Cape... With merlot in 05; cherry tobacco & mulberry, soft frame. 20 mths oak. (Platter 2009) The typical savoury sangiovese character of spice and herbs is rounded into a soft, silky wine with a rich mid palate as a result of the Merlot. A dense yet elegant wine with a lingering finish. Red cherries, a touch of spice, herbs and cigars are carried by a generous, silky mouthfeel and soft, well-rounded tannins. Honours late Norwegian Everest summiteer Arné Naess; 50/50 mix in 2007, raises the bar on 2006 (): fruitful marriage of merlot's plum & 'rock pool' character with sangiovese's zip & grip. 18 months 50% new oak.
