De Wetshof Limestone Hill Chardonnay 2011
Fresh green apples combined with delicate citrus aromas follow through with a long tangy finish of delicious full round ripe peaches, green apples and nutty, citrus flavours.

Palish yellow-green. Aromas of yellow plum, apricot and tropical fruits lifted by a zippy citrus element. Sweet, clean and ripe, with peach and spice flavors refreshed and complicated by sexy flinty minerality. Nicely concentrated, fruit-driven, persistent wine with the energy that comes from decomposed limestone soil. I love this style. Fresh green apples combined with delicate citrus aromas on the nose follow through on the palate with a long tangy finish of delicious full round ripe peaches, green apples and nutty, citrus flavours. Unwooded, unpretentious and flavourful, driven by a mineral backbone so often found in French Chablis. Exotic blossoms, passionfruit and lime take you to the tropics while the wine remains deliciously dry. Unwooded version, lees-aged few mths. 08 (***1/2 stars) tad less depth & complexity than 07. Fresh apple & citrus aromas & flavours balanced by zesty lime-cordial acidity. (Platter 2009) The Danie de Wet Limestone Hill Chardonnay never sees oak, and offers impeccably pure, refreshing apple, peach and lemon fruit, a lovely leesy richness of texture, and a nutty, chalky, fruit-filled finish of imposing length. Understated and less tropical than some of the better un-oaked Australian Chardonnays, this wine possesses far better balance and sheer drink-ability – not to mention more finesse – than 99% of the world’s Chardonnay I have experienced at its price. The Danie de Wet line is produced at the De Wetshof estate. (Robert Parker) This local spin on Chablis is quite delicious. Unwooded with a full concentration of fruit flavours and subtle lime finish.
