Simonsig Chenin Avec Chêne 2008
Fragrant baked apple with caramelised sugar and spicy toasty oak notes. Sweet, ripe apple and pear characters, a subtle infusion of honeyed Botrytis is perfectly balanced by a zesty, clean acidity and a dry finish.

Bright golden yellow colour. The nose has an intense ripe yellow apple and tropical fruit aromas with a subtle infusion of honeyed Botrytis and spicy oak. Sunripened Chenin flavours coat the palate and the delicately handled oak enhances the depth of flavour. A distinct mineral character leaves a clean finish and balances the slight sweetness. A delicious full bodied Chenin with viscous mouthfeel and a silky, seamless texture. Zesty 07 with thatch, white peach, lemon whiffs enhanced by hint botrytis. Well-judged oak (ferm/11 mths, 14% new), warm 14.8% alc & 6 g/l RS. 06 (**** 1/2 stars) was more elegant. (Platter 2009) |
