Tokara clinches trophy for Best New World White Blend

Tokara Director’s Reserve White 2020 was crowned Best New World White Blend at the 2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge.

Tokara Director’s Reserve White 2020 was crowned Best New World White Blend, bringing home the trophy as the highest scoring wine in its class from the 2023 Global Fine Wine Challenge.

The flagship white of this acclaimed family-owned Stellenbosch wine estate, Tokara Director’s Reserve White triumphed over blends from six New World wine growing nations in this international wine competition hosted annually in Australia. Tokara’s flagship red blend, the Director’s Reserve Red 2020, also excelled with a Gold medal in this illustrious line-up.

Evolving from the Tri-nations Challenge founded 20 years ago, the Six Nations Global Fine Wine Challenge is the only competition dedicated exclusively to showcasing the best of the best New World wines from the USA, Canada, Chile, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

The Tokara Director’s Reserve White 2020 is a classic Sauvignon blanc/Semillon blend made from grapes on the highest slopes of the Simonsberg. It has amazing clarity and depth. Passionfruit and pink grapefruit intermingle with hints of cassis and freshly toasted brioche. The wine is full and rich with a zesty persistence.

A significant feather in winemaker Stuart Botha’s cap, the Director’s Reserve White has grown in stature as a world class Cape Bordeaux-style blend representing everything Tokara exemplifies – refinement, elegance and balance.
