Stellenbosch Reserve

Jean Engelbrecht, along with his friends Dillie Malherbe and Jannie Durand, set out to create a wine that would not only embody all that is Stellenbosch, but that would also pay homage to this great town at the heart of the Cape winelands. Each wine in this range pays tribute to an historical landmark in Stellenbosch.

A bold Bordeaux-styled blend that pays tribute to one of Stellenbosch’s oldest buildings, the Vanderstel. Stellenbosch Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
The Ou Hoofgebou was built to house the Stellenbosch College, which later became Stellenbosch University. After construction of other college buildings, the original building was referred to as the Ou Hoofgebou (Old Main Building). Now home to the Faculty of Law, the Ou Hoofgebou is a stately landmark in the campus landscape. Considered the King of red varieties, the Cabernet Sauvignon matches the Ou Hoofgebou in bearing with its regal flavours and powerful tannins.

Stellenbosch Reserve Kweekskool Merlot
The Kweekskool is the home to the Theology faculty of Stellenbosch University. It marked the beginning of higher education in Stellenbosch when it was established as the Theology Seminary in 1859. Originally built in 1687 and remodelled over the years to its present form, the evolution and endurance of this distinctive building is what we try to capture in our Merlot.

Stellenbosch Reserve Kruithuis Syrah
The Kruithuis was completed in 1777 as the munitions building for the Dutch East India Company. Prior to this, the officers of the Stellenbosch cavalry had to go to Cape Town for military training once a year. Today the VOC Kruithuis is a symbol of military strength and power, which is reflected in the powerful fruit flavours and structure of the 2018 Syrah.
